Au Revoir 2011

New Year's Eve: an event so epic Hollywood is allowed to make crappy movies about it that still bring millions into box offices. Last night, Lindsey asked me, "Do Europeans party hard?" and the answer to that is yes, of course they do. But you all know me, I rarely party hard and so my NYE was really quite mellow and low-key, as usual. Here's a quick synopsis of what went down.

I spent the majority of the day helping Patrick clean his room so that Pepijn can have a nice, clean place to stay while Patrick is in Sweden! Pepijn's lease on his room is up today, but we're not ready for him to leave yet so we're keeping him as a stowaway in Patrick's room for another week. YAY! After all the cleaning was finished, Patrick and I went to Putney to get food and party supplies for that night. We partied in Philipp's kitchen with his cousin and two friends visiting from Germany, as well as other friends. We drank, we ate, we laughed and danced/hopped/jumped/spun for hours until the gang headed out to central for a crazy night of "partying hard" as Lindsey would say. Everyone except Patrick, Anne, and me went to Zoo Bar in Central. Funds are low, and have been for several weeks now so I couldn't afford to join the madness. It cost £25 just to get in the door! A bit out of my price range. I haven't heard from any of the survivors from last night yet, but I'm sure that they had an amazing time.
Our pack down to just 3, we went to Anne's kitchen to make some dinner and play some games while we waited for 00:00. Anne introduced us to an old short film, which her family watches on TV every year. I will now proceed to share it with you. May I present: "Dinner for One"
Before we knew it, the count down had begun. We streamed the amazing London Eye fireworks on Anne's laptop from BBC1. It wasn't the same as being there for real, but I guess going next year is just one more reason why I need to stay in London! So anyway, I took a video of the video of the fireworks. Yeah, that's amazing, I know. About 3 minutes into the show we heard fireworks outside so we decided to leave my camera rolling and check out the live action. We could see fireworks all around London from the hill behind our college. They were far away and just barely rising over the horizon, but still it was pretty. Here's the video of the video (hah!). Next year I swear, if I'm here in London I'm going to see this fireworks display in real life.

Happy New Year everyone! 2012 is here and bringing with it the end of the world (or so they say) so let's make this year the best year ever, just in case those crazy Mayans were right. Think up a really meaningful New Years Resolution and then follow through. Be the master of your fate and make your dreams come true; or, at the very least change your outlook and realise that everything will be how it should be.
