Song, dance, comedy, feather boas, sparkly pasties. This show had it all. Well, truth be told I don't really know if it actually had it all - this was my first burlesque experience. But I was pleased with the performances. The atmosphere was awesome, the performers were talented, and we all had a really great time. This event was dubbed "Hot Sunday", so afterward, we felt it fitting to grab sundaes from the nearby McDonalds. All in all, a great Sunday evening. Can't wait to do it again!

Burlesque!
As last night's lovely hostess so elegantly put it, my burlesque cherry has officially been popped! Sunday's are usually boring, so this Sunday some friends and I decided to head down to Tooting (yes, that's really the name of the town) to hit up some free burlesque. Sam had the inside info, being friends with the hostess. We took long bus ride to the Tooting Tram and Social, and almost walked right past the entrance. We walked in 10 minutes before the show was supposed to start and found a dimly lit, full house, blast-from-the-past atmosphere. It felt like we had just walked back in time 50 years. All of the tables were either occupied or "reserved" for so-and-so. We lurked by the bar, ordered some drinks, and then were offered seats by a friendly pair of friends who had more chairs than they needed. Then the show began, and my what a treat that was!

As of late...
It occurred to me today that I haven't posted a new blog lately. Strange, because it's not like I haven't been doing anything blog-worthy lately. I guess I've just been busy with other things. No, not school things. Just other things, I guess. So an update is in order for all of my friends and family back home who are curious about what I've been up to lately.
Since my last blog post, I've attended a hilarious comedy show at the Half Moon Pub in Putney. If I had more information or a better memory of the comedians, I would dedicate a whole post to them. Unfortunately, I don't remember any of their names. I just remember laughing a lot. Apparently the Half Moon puts on a comedy night once a month for the whopping price of £5! I think we'll make that a regular monthly occurrence. Laughter makes the soul light, right?
Valentine's day has also come and gone. I baked fudge drop cookies for Patrick during the day. I forgot to take a picture of the final product, but they were delicious! Like brownies in cookie form. Nomnom. Patrick took me to a fancy French restaurant on the south bank for dinner. It was delicious and beautiful. We walked along the river for a bit, but then when it got too cold we just headed home and watched a movie. Relaxing and pleasant v-day.
I also adventured to Camden town market with Jessica last week. That was very fun and interesting! Camden is an up-scale hipster neighbourhood with lots of trendy shops and interesting, enlightened-looking folks wandering about. They've turned a large old horse stable into a shopping area that's full of authentic vintage stuff. I say authentic vintage because this stuff is actually vintage, not just modern-vintage-wanna-be stuff common in all the trendiest hipster shops. I'm not cool enough to buy vintage, but it's still fun to look at. There's also street food in Camden, so that's another win! The street vendors stick out toothpicks and forks of food at you, begging you to try their speciality. Not surprisingly, I obliged most of them. I also had a delicious crepe. Perhaps the most delicious crepe I've ever had. Strawberry, banana, Nutella heaven.
I've been cooking a lot lately, still. I've noticed a change in my general mood and sleeping pattern since eating well-balanced meals on a regular basis. Amazing. Here are some pictures of what I've been cooking up lately. Fish tacos, Texas Sheet Cake, egg McMuffins, turkey with wild rice and cream sauce, parmesan chicken with pasta, beef and mushroom stroganoff, BBQ reindeer burgers with roasted potatoes, and my very first meatloaf! My mother must be so proud.
This past weekend I had my first experience of hang drying all of my belongings in my room after the dryers in the laundry room decided to just roll my clothes around for an hour without any heat. Awesome. Of course this happens after 3 weeks had passed since the last time I did laundry - leaving me with no underwear, socks, pants, or bras. Oh yeah, and I decided why not wash the sheets and towels, too! Lucky for me, half of my stuff found a temporary home in Patrick's room to hang dry for 24 hours. So much for any plans I had for Friday.
Due to the laundry fiasco, I was unable to go to the grocery store on Friday. So, not only did I have no clothes to wear, I also had no food to cook. Ok, fine no food is a bit of an exaggeration. There's always a spare box of mac 'n' cheese or dried pasta with jar sauce (I'm my mother's daughter--I'm allowed to hoard food) but that just didn't sound appealing. However, this did present me with a very unique reason to try something I'd been wanting to try for a while: internet-ordered groceries! Sainsbury's is the store I usually visit in Putney. They've got a decent selection and generally the best prices (with the exception, of course, of ASDA which is owned by Wal-Mart so... not an option). Sainsbury's lets you type all of your groceries into an online shopping list. They then present you with a plethora of choices that "match" the item on your list, and you choose the one that you want. They then pick it all off the shelves, bag it up, store it neatly in the back of a refrigerated truck, and deliver it to your door. Now, living in dormitories, I was assuming the closest the truck would get was the front gate to the grounds. However, the truck driver drove right to the door of my building, loaded my food on a dolly, and brought it up to my kitchen. Talk about service! Ok, I'm a little more excited about this than I probably should be. But not only was it incredibly convenient, but it was cheaper than my going to the store! I have officially been converted to an internet grocery shopper. It sure as heck beets taking the bus to the next town over and hauling the food home in backpacks, reusable shopping bags, and whatever other means necessary. Silver lining to the dark cloud of laundry failure found!
Oh yeah, I've also been going to class. It's the beginning of the 4th week of classes for me. They're, thus far at least, much more interesting than the courses of last term. I can't believe it's pretty much time to start working on my dissertation! Time is flying! Oh, and I'm still waiting for grades from last term.
I think that's all to report for now. Hopefully I will do more exciting things soon so I can have more focused blog posts.

London Sea Life Aquarium
Yesterday I took Patrick to the Aquarium as his Christmas present. We were really excited. I wasn't sure exactly what we would see, but I'd been to a Sea Life aquarium before in Phoenix, so I thought maybe they might be the same. The layout of the aquarium was similar to that of the one in Phoenix, but that's where the similarities end. The London aquarium had so much more to see! The exhibits were full of things that were actually interesting to look at, rather than just random fish. Anyway, we had a good time walking around and seeing the fish, sharks, rays, turtles, penguins, and so on. My favourite part was the jelly fish. I still think aquariums should have more jelly fish. Oh well. After the aquarium we had some lunch at Wagamama. YUM! We watched the final episodes of Dexter season 5 (awesome) and then I took a nap. Lazy, fun, exciting day. Here are some pictures of the not so lazy part of the day.

NomNom Food
I've been cooking like a mad woman lately. Dinners and desserts have been being churned out of my kitchen like crazy. I am loving all of the free time I have to spend cooking up these delicious things. But what I love even more is sharing all of it with my wonderful friends. They don't seem to mind either.
Here's some of the stuff I've been concocting lately. It's all pretty good, some of it is fantastic. I'm keeping the really winning recipes in a folder on my computer. Barbara, my flatmate from Greece, says I'm ready to "open my own home." I guess this is good practice for that hopefully not-so-far-away future of motherhood and wifey-ness.

Snow!!!
The title of this post pretty much hits the nail on the head. It snowed. I was excited. I am excited.
Saturday night around 7 it started snowing and it didn't stop until about 3 am. When the first flurries started to fall from the sky I was literally bouncing with joy and excitement. Patrick, on the other hand, was unimpressed. The first snow of the season (though extremely late this year) was amazing to witness. After dinner I decided I needed to go out and be with the snow. I bundled up in my "space suite" (as Patrick called it); jacket, hat, gloves, boots - check, check, check, check. Ready for some snowy fun!
Ulfie, Patrick, and I went out first. There was about an inch on the ground at this point. It was perfect for snowball formation. That's exactly what we did. We recruited Anne by hurling snowballs at her window until she agreed to come down. Terry and Jess, sorry that you missed this fun! We attempted our own snowman. Anne taught Ulfie and me how to roll the snowball on the ground to make it bigger. This was something I'd seen in films but never actually attempted. We were proud of our snowman and perched him on top of the hill outside our flat. Tired, and frozen, we headed inside for some tea.
After warming up Patrick and I headed back out into the frozen wonderland to see the field behind school and the view of Richmond Park. It was incredibly breath taking. The sky was red, reflecting the city lights down onto us. It was so bright it seemed more like early morning than 11:30. We met some friends who were taking on the incredible task of building a giant snowman. The balls of snow were massive and required four of them pushing with all they had to move it around the field. I watched as they completed their masterpiece. About an hour later, 7' Elvis was completed and christened. Time to thaw out again.
The next day, Patrick, Terry, and I headed to Richmond park to check out what was left of the snow. We hiked halfway through the park to the lake. Armed with a loaf of yucky ASDA bread, we went to feed the birds who were braving the snow. The lake was semi frozen. Frozen enough for the birds to land on it and make little slushy footprints on the surface. They enjoyed the crummy ASDA bread and we enjoyed throwing it at them. Then we walked back through the park to warm up our frozen bodies once again.
Now the snow is melting. It's almost completely gone from the trees and lawns outside of school. The sidewalks are slick with dirty sludge. I guess one awesome night of 2-3 inches of snowfall is pretty good. That's all the snow I need. Now it's time for spring?
